Dear Sipho Nkabinde,
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We truly appreciate hearing about your experience.
I'd like to ask a few questions to better understand what may have gone wrong, as we want to ensure our products perform to their highest potential.
Carrier Alcohol: Which carrier alcohol did you use for dilution? It's essential to use high-quality carrier alcohol, as some lower-grade options can affect both scent throw and longevity. We offer premium carrier alcohol on our store, and I noticed you didn't purchase any from us — this could be a factor!
Blending \& Maturation: Did you allow the blend to mature properly after mixing? Fragrance oils, especially thicker ones like smoking Patchouli, need adequate maturation time (typically 2–4 weeks on the self or 12 to 24 hours freezer process, www.perfumeoils.co.za/pages/the-perfumery-hub) after dilution. Without this, the fragrance may not blend properly and could separate, resulting in poor performance.
Dilution Ratio: With 250g of oil into 15 bottles of 50ml each, that's roughly 33% fragrance concentration per bottle, which is actually very high. For comparison, most commercial perfumes use 15–25%. At such a high concentration, the oil can sometimes 'overpower' the alcohol and actually reduce performance rather than improve it — leading to poor projection and longevity.
We take great pride in the quality of our fragrance oils, and smoking Patchouli is one of our top sellers with excellent feedback. I'm genuinely sorry you had this experience, but I believe the issue may lie in the dilution method, carrier alcohol, or maturation process rather than the oil itself.
I'd love to help troubleshoot further — could you share details about your process? We may be able to help you salvage the batch.
Best regards,
